The Democrats’ real strategy in launching recounts

The recount in Wisconsin, and the coming ones in Michigan and Pennsylvania will not change the outcomes in any of the states.  No recount ever changes thousands of votes.  I do not think that is the purpose.

The recounts, if done by hand, which can be demanded, may take longer than the last day for completing the official counts in a state and directing Electoral College voters.  If all 3 states miss the deadline, Trump is at 260, Hillary at 232.  No one hits 270.

Then this goes to Congress, where the House voting 1 vote per state elects Trump, and Senate selects Pence. This would be first time Pthis happened since 1824, but in that case, John Quincy Adams won in the House, though he had fewer electoral college votes than Andrew Jackson.

If this goes to the US House and Senate, and the result is the same as result from the Electoral College without the recounts, why do it?  The answer is to make Trump seem even more illegitimate, that he did not win the popular vote  (he lost by over 2.1 million), he did not win the Electoral College (did not reach 270), and was elected by being inserted into the presidency by members of his own party in Congress.

In the 2004 Ohio recount, which the Greens and Libertarians pursued, election fraud was indeed found and 2 election officials were sentenced to 18 months in prison each.  The Democrats didn’t want the recount done, even though had Kerry won Ohio he would have won the Presidency.

The Democrats kept their own teams from going to Florida for the 2000 recount, which also might have gotten them the Presidency.

But the Democrats and Republicans were perfectly happy to work together to railroad the Greens out of the city government in Minneapolis about a decade ago.

Nope, Jill Stein and the Greens are naive and idealistic enough to think the process should be followed and should be uncorrupted.  If anything, Trump should smile and let this proceed without much comment.  Of course, it’s possible Republicans will be caught doing the vote-rigging, but it’s at least as likely it’ll be Democrats.  And really, have we devolved into moral relativism so far so fast since 9/11/01 that we’re OK with election corruption as long as our guy wins?

This is not an attempt to screw up the Electoral College.  That’s a silly myth; “Odatruf” lays it to rest below in this thread.  The laws around the Electoral College take however many electors show up, and who wins the majority of them.  There’s nothing magical about the number 270.  If only 500 Electors show up, the magic number is 251.

There’s no chance the results will be overturned.  There is a very good chance corruption will be revealed and people stand in jeopardy of doing some time.  The Democrats are cautiously giving lip service to the effort, if only to stay close enough to it to sabotage any particularly interesting discoveries.  It’s troubling the Republican seem to reflexively opposed.
